A Scottish fish processor needed their own reliable source of ice and had considered several ice machine manufacturers, but after asking around they decided to approach Ziegra.

We discussed various ice types, but in the end they decided on granular flake ice for its excellent storage characteristics and intrinsic hygiene. This type of ice comes in three sizes and they chose the midi size flake for its general performance and versatility.

We have seen cases over the last few years where customers, with good intentions and in the interests of reducing costs, have purchased alternative parts, which on the surface look and are specified as being the same as genuine Ziegra parts.

As with most things, what you see on the surface is often misleading. There are many propriety components used by Ziegra but they are often a bespoke version of those parts, uniquely prepared to our specification

A large vegetable processor approached Ziegra to discuss automatic cooling solutions for their cook and chill line.

They had a large area at the other side of the factory that would serve as a plant room, but needed a fast, efficient and labour saving way of getting the ice from there to the various points it was needed in the cook and chill area.

Ziegra has again been awarded accreditation from Alcumus SafeContractor for achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace.

Ziegra has been a member of the scheme since 2011 and the new accreditation will take us into 2019.

Thanks to Alex Pino of Alpino Services for sending in these pictures of their newest installation aboard the boat 'Our David George'.

Alpino installed the SWE 1.250TW on board ice machine in the cold room along with one of his stainless steel hold cooling systems.

The machine was supplied pre-configured to make one tonne per day of saltwater ice from seawater but can be re-configured at any time to make 1.2 tonnes of freshwater ice should that be necessary by simply changing the ice discharge adapater and pulley (supplied).

Our service agent from Cornwall, Alex Pino of Alpino Services kindly sent us these pictures of an installation carried out on board the Karen of Ladram last week.

This week we were in Whitby at Parkol Marine, to commission "Karen of Ladram's" Ziegra SWE.2.500TW ice machine which will produce 2t of sea water ice per 24hrs. After an initial visit to the yard last week to liaise with the vessels owner/skipper and the manager/engineers of Parkol, we all agreed on the positioning of the machine and service supplies to it.'

Ziegra Working For Future Generations

We at Ziegra recognise that we all have a part to play in making good decisions that are in line with market demands but also protect the interests of future generations. As part of our company's Coolnat program, we have developed a range of CO2 ice machines. CO2 is a natural refrigerant and is becoming popular as an alternative to freon based refrigerants, which are now recognised as harmful to our environment.

Hygiene was of paramount importance to this customer, so the machine was upgraded to stainless steel frame and panels for easy cleaning and the legs were extended to facilitate cleaning underneath. This in addition to the intrinically hygienic design of Ziegra granular flake ice machines and the Ziegra Triple water filtration system which is fitted as standard.

One of our service agents, Alex Pino of Alpino Services in Cornwall kindly sent us these pictures of an installation carried out on board the Ocean Spirit last year.

"The Ziegra SWE1.500TW was the choice of machine for our customer and suited his fishing/ice requirements perfectly. This machine was always going to be a tight fit and some major fabrication was required, which included various items of bilge pump pipework which exited thru the hold hatch!"
